Sherlock Holmes died in “The Final Problem” after fighting Moriarty at the Reichenbach Falls in Switzerland. Conan Doyle brought him back 10 years later in “The Adventure of the Empty House”, where it was explained that he faked his death after flinging Moriarty down the waterfall and then climbing up the cliff beside the path to make it look as if he had fallen too.
